Summit Legal Aid is currently seeking a staff attorney for our Cambria County office in Johnstown.  This position will be a part of the NATIONAL ORGANIZATION OF LEGAL SERVICES WORKERS (NOLSW), U.A.W. LOCAL 2320 after a six-month probationary period.

As a member of our team, you will:

  • Advise and represent clients in civil legal matters, including protection from abuse, family law, housing, income, and debt
  • Collaborate with staff and partners for holistic client advocacy
  • Maintain a commitment to advocate for the rights of our low-income community

Skills and Requirements:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in PA or be eligible for admission. Law Graduates will be considered if they have taken the bar exam.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with clients and staff, work independently and efficiently, and be able to problem solve and work collaboratively with community partner agency staff.
  • Training or experience in community lawyering or community organizing, demonstrated strong listening and relationship-building skills, experience, creativity, and willingness to use varied legal and non-legal advocacy tools to advance community-identified initiatives preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel throughout our service area; a car and a clean valid Pennsylvania driver's license are required.

This position will be full-time with benefits but with a prohibition against the outside practice of law. Flexible work schedules are permitted, when possible, though court appearances will be required as determined by the Courts of Common Pleas and local Magisterial District Courts. A license to practice in Pennsylvania is required.

This position operates in a professional law office environment and occasionally may require the carrying of regular office supplies. This role requires the use of standard office equipment, software, and remote videoconferencing platforms.
