A NEW PROGRAM TO RESTORE PENNSYLVANIA DRIVER'S LICENSES

January 28, 2026

Washington, PA – Summit Legal Aid, the region’s free community legal aid organization, is announcing a new program to restore driver’s licenses in Armstrong, Cambria, Clarion, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson Somerset, Washington, and Westmoreland Counties.

In addition to providing help for civil legal issues such as evictions, protection from abuse, child custody, and public benefits appeals, individuals who have lost, or are in danger of losing, their driving privileges can now turn to Summit Legal Aid for assistance.

Services include providing free, personalized legal help with navigating PennDOT restoration requirements, appeals, probationary licenses, occupational limited licenses, and ignition interlock licenses.

Beginning as a pilot program for residents of Washington County, Summit Legal Aid quickly learned that there is a true need for navigating the complicated restoration requirements in Pennsylvania.

“In our mostly rural service area, we know a driver’s license is a crucial tool for people who, every day, need to get to work, go to doctor’s appointments, get their kids to school, and help elderly or disabled family members,” says Summit Legal Aid Managing Attorney Pamela Enck.  “We’ve seen that when people regain their driving privileges, their confidence and sense of dignity is also restored.  Our mission is to help people along the path of restoration by whatever means we can.”
