PAI & PRO BONO
PROGRAM

Volunteer Opportunities for Attorneys

Every day, families in our community face urgent civil legal issues, including housing, custody, safety, access to benefits, and more.  For many, the difference between security and crisis is access to an attorney, yet thousands of our neighbors cannot afford representation.

Private attorneys who wish to help residents in our communities in need of legal help are always welcome.

About the PAI & Pro Bono Program

Our PAI and Pro Bono Program is made possible through funding from the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), the nation’s largest funder of civil legal aid for low-income Americans.  Every LSC-funded legal aid program dedicates a portion of its federal grant to support and engage private attorneys in delivering legal services to the community.  This partnership requirement reflects a powerful truth: closing the justice gap requires collaboration.

By partnering with local attorneys and community agencies, we can expand the reach of legal aid and ensure that more families, veterans, seniors, and survivors of domestic violence receive the representation they deserve.  By volunteering with our PAI & Pro Bono Program, attorneys are making a direct, local impact where it matters most.

Ways to Get Involved

Assist with Cases

In addition to the volume of work handled by our staff, Summit Legal Aid’s PAI Program regularly refers cases to private attorneys who step in to provide vital representation. These cases are offered on a reduced-rate basis, giving local attorneys the chance to deliver high-quality legal services to clients in need of help.

By taking on cases, you are an essential partner in our mission to ensure equal justice for all.

Volunteer at a Legal Clinic

Summit Legal Aid proudly hosts pro bono legal clinics across our ten-county service area.

Each one-day clinic begins with a general legal information session, open to all community members, followed by private one-on-one consultations with individuals who meet our eligibility criteria. Attorneys who volunteer at these clinics have the opportunity to:

  • Provide immediate guidance to clients facing urgent legal issues;
  • Engage in short, focused service opportunities with lasting impact;
  • Connect directly with community members in need, often resolving problems on the spot.

Legal clinics are a powerful way to serve, which allows attorneys to provide life-changing help to neighbors who would otherwise go without representation.
